    Unintended Consequences

The primary goal of new legislation is often to address specific issues or improve societal conditions. However, implementing these laws can sometimes lead to unintended consequences, with significant implications for individuals and communities. In recent years, initiatives such as the elimination of cash bail and mental health diversion programs have sparked debates about their efficacy and unintended outcomes. Avery Webb, from the Office of the Alternate Public Defender, will show that while these measures are aimed at promoting fairness, safety, and rehabilitation within the criminal justice system, the programs have raised concerns about their potential to exacerbate disparities, overcrowd detention facilities, and inadequately address mental health needs. Understanding the complexities and unintended consequences of such laws is crucial for policymakers, legal professionals, and society at large in navigating the evolving landscape of justice reform.

Sunday Assembly San Diego is an inclusive non-religious community that meets monthly to hear inspirational talks, connect for service projects, sing songs and generally celebrate life. Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome. AND!! Free child care for ages 1.5 and up is available at every Assembly.
